Jim Reninger (1933) is the only DGN graduate to have played Major League Baseball, and Don Granato (1985) was a member of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.
He was an everyman from the Midwest, with humility and accessibility, who was variously described as sycophantic, but also a man of integrity.
He signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which ensured that religious freedom was fully protected, and, as political columnist Brian noted, he signed an amendment that stated that it did not authorize discrimination. Pence wore his faith not just on his sleeve, but an entire jersey. In 2018, former U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., told The Atlantic: "Mike Pence is the kind of evangelical politician you want in the White House, not just because of his religious beliefs.
He signed an amendment to the religious liberty law that made him a conservative hero, and while opponents successfully pushed the law through the courts, Indiana experienced its first-ever same-sex marriage equality law.
Pence also voted unanimously as vice president, breaking a Senate vote that allows the state to withhold federal family planning funding from Planned Parenthood until 2017. Pence has also been an outspoken opponent of LGBTQ rights, speaking out against the federal government's "don't ask, don't tell" policy on same-sex marriage. He has also supported constitutional amendments to state and federal constitutions that ban same-sex marriage and has expressed opposition to the 2015 Obergefell decision requiring states to recognize such partnerships.
As a congressman, he was the first to promote Planned Parenthood's defense legislation in 2007, and he did so again in 2011, passing his first "defense bill." During his six terms in the House, Pence has built a reputation for being principled against abortion and the Republican Party's policies on abortion rights and the rights of children left behind. He also attracted attention after deciding to avoid meetings with women and public events where alcohol is served when his wife is not present.
As a freshman at Hanover College in 1978, Pence experienced an evangelical conversion after attending a music festival in Kentucky that became known as Christian Woodstock. In the mid-1990s, he was a married father of three who identified himself as "Born - Again Christian," an unusual term that caused consternation among evangelical Catholics.
The school's student body is split in two, with one visiting the north and the other the newly built Downers Grove South. Campus North attracts students from across the state, as well as from nearby Downes Grove High School, the University of Illinois at Chicago and Illinois State University.
The auditorium is named after Clarence Johnson, who was the school's director for 35 years (1932 - 1967). The Green Room Theater is named after John A. Green, a former leader of the Pepsi movement known for his positive spirit. The DGN outdoor stadium was named in honor of Downes Grove High School's first football coach, John "Shorty" Powers (1941-1961), who was the first head coach of a high school football team in Illinois.
After voting for Jimmy Carter in the 1980 presidential election, he has come to embrace the president - Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Pence has honed his political skills as a former senator and U.S. senator from Indiana, and his embrace of Trump comes after years of rejection.
Tomlinson-Holman is a master student at Downers Grove North High School and a member of the school board. Sport - Injuries related to sport can be incredibly painful and severely restrict mobility, but there are always treatment options. A chiropractor can introduce you to a comprehensive physical therapy that targets the injured area. The rehabilitation of injuries is different for everyone, and most patients can be treated in a chiropractic practice without having to seek professional help. Although the injury is unique to each patient, there are several that are common in athletes who exercise frequently, such as hip, knee, ankle, back, shoulder, neck and back injuries.
